Sharon Kay Gentry High Crowell

Sharon Kay Gentry High Crowell passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, in Springdale, Ark. There will be no service.

She was born November 9, 1941 in Fredonia, to Mildred Agnes Wright Gentry and Larry Wayne Gentry (both deceased). Kay was the stepdaughter of Severen E. High (deceased) of Derby.

She graduated from Derby High School in 1960, and Emporia State Teachers College in 1964, where she received her elementary teaching degree. She taught kindergarten in the Derby public schools for 17 years before moving to Bella Vista Ark. where she established an interior design business, Interiors by Kay, and lived for 20 years.

Kay was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Derby where she sang in the choir. She loved music and was gifted in voice and piano. Her hobbies were needlework, bridge and traveling with the Bridge Girl’s Club. She will especially be missed by her family and lifelong friends.

Kay is survived by her daughter, Amy Kay Crowell Hickman (Henry); grandsons, Hank and Eli Hickman of Elkins, Ark.; stepsister, Sharon High Haber of New Orleans, La.; nephew, Brian Haber; nieces, Elizabeth Durham and Melissa Jones; and aunts, Bonnie McClure and Betty Morrison.

A memorial fund has been established in Kay’s name with First Presbyterian Church, 324 N. Baltimore, Derby, Kan. 67037.
