Three businesses located on south K-15 were burglarized early Wednesday morning and police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect.

The businesses burglarized were the VFW/American Legion post (101 S. Baltimore), Dreamscapes (227 S. Baltimore) and Ralph’s Barber Shop (229 S. Baltimore). All three businesses had damage from the methods of breaking in, including kicking in a door and entry through a window.

The thief took a blue gym bag and approximately $30, according to Police Lt. Tim Brant.

Police believe the burglaries occurred at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday, as a silent alarm at the VFW/American Legion Post at 101 S. Baltimore was tripped at that time. Brant said officers responded to the VFW, but were unable at that time to see any evidence of a break-in from the exterior.

When employees of the post arrived for work later in the morning, they discovered the burglary, he said. Because of the close proximity it is reasonable to assume all three occurred at about the same time, he said.

Video from the VFW/Legion post shows the thief as he looks around the business. From that video, officers are describing him as a white male, dark hair worn in a ponytail, wearing a gray polo-type shirt, black shorts and black tennis shoes, possibly high top shoes. He also appears to have a tattoo on his right calf.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Det. Karensa Skeels at the Derby Police Investigations Section at 788-1558, or Derby Crime Stoppers at 316-788-TIPS (8477).
