Investigation ends in April shooting

By Linda Stinnett

The investigation into a shooting on April 10 has concluded and it is being called a self-inflicted injury, according to Police Chief Robert Lee.

The shooting occurred April 10 in a home in the 900 block of Briarwood. A woman in her 50s sustained extremely serious injuries in the incident.

Her medical condition continues to make it impossible for investigators to talk to her, Lee said. Questions of whether the injuries were intentional or accidental will likely never be known, he said.

Derby Fire and Rescue and Sedgwick County EMS first responded to the scene to a report of a medical call just after 9 a.m. on April 10. While they began treatment, it was discovered the problem was a gunshot wound.

Officers searched the home most of the day of April 10 for evidence or clues in the case which could have helped them determine what might have happened, he said.

The woman was not home alone at the time of the incident, Lee said.
