Tanglewood Elementary student Tanner Perry was one of six area students who will be heading to Space Camp at the Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, courtesy of Citizens Bank of Kansas.
Perry wrote an essay describing why he would want to go to space camp. His work was selected making him one of the winners who received a space camp scholarship. Citizens Bank of Kansas, who recently purchased Verus Bank, has been offering the scholarships each year in the communities they serve. Fifth grade students are invited to participate in the essay contest.
“One of the best parts of the contest is delivering the good news to the winners during the last days of the school year,” said Jane Deterding, Chairman of the Board of Citizens Bank of Kansas.
The winning students will attend the Cosmosphere’s Mars Academy camp, a three-day overnight camp during which students build robotic sensor platforms to navigate a Martian landscape, construct a power grid, engineer and program robots, geocache to find their survival needs and build a Martian habitat.
