A portion of Webb Road near Derby has been closed due to erosion from the nearby Spring Creek.
The Board of Sedgwick County Commissioners voted Wednesday to close the 775-foot portion of Webb Road, south of 79th Street South.
The road, located southeast of Derby, is currently maintained by Rockford Township. The township and its insurance carrier have requested the closure due to safety concerns.
Spring Creek flows immediately adjacent to Webb Road and the creek’s water is eroding the road. County officials say the average daily traffic count of the road is 66 vehicles.
Property owners south of the closure have access to a paved road on 87th Street South.
Discussions to close the road began in September 2018, involving Sedgwick County, Rockford Township, City of Derby, and nearby property owners.
