Uncorked File

Music has been a part of the annual Derby Community Foundation Uncorked event in the past and the 2019 version will be no exception. Live music and dancing is only a small part of what’s planned for Uncorked 2019, the first official event of Derby’s sesquicentennial celebration.

You see green all around Derby. In the schools, the parks and, some might say, our robust economy.

So why not celebrate the city’s favorite color?

In that regard, the Derby Community Foundation’s 2019 edition of Uncorked is putting green front and foremost with its theme of “Green is Magic,” and a subtitle of “Celebrating Derby: 150 Years.”

“We’re very excited about being the kickoff event for the 150th celebration,” said Theresa Hearn, executive director of the DFC. “The committee has worked really hard to make this a special Uncorked in conjunction with it.”

As a bonus, 150 of the 300 wineglasses distributed at Uncorked will feature both the DCF logo and the 150th Derby Anniversary logo.

“They’re keepsake items,” Hearn said.

Uncorked is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at The Venue at Madison Avenue Central Park. Tickets are $75 each, with $30 of that being a tax-deductible donation as it is a fundraiser for the DCF.

Derby Wine and Spirits is a new liquor vendor this year.

“We’re happy to have a local business providing the wine and beer,” Hearn said.

Food, including dessert, will be prepared by Blue Moon Catering and Truly Amazing Catering.

For entertainment, there is live music and dancing. There also will be the popular mystery boxes, cork pull and a photo booth.

There won’t be a live auction this year, only what Hearn is calling a “super silent auction,” which will feature 10-12 items, each valued at $250 or more.

Of course, in the spirit of the city’s 150th birthday, there will be a Derby trivia contest.

Contestants will receive a raffle ticket for each correct answer and then enter the tickets for a chance to win a Derby-themed basket of goodies and a cash prize.

Dress for the evening is cocktail attire, and gives attendees a chance to dress to the nines.

Tickets go on sale starting Jan. 1 at the Derby Welcome Center. They’re also available at www.derbycf.org.
