The Derby City Council voted this past week to stay neutral on the school district’s Process for Success bond issue. The motion stated that the council would officially remain "neutral as Switzerland" as the campaign heats up to convince local residents to vote for the $67 million bond issue. However, the city will allow the school district to use its printed Horizon newsletter, cable Channel 7 and the city website to publish information on the bond issue. That will help local residents be an informed public, according to Chuck Warren, council member. The district will also not allow city facilities to be used for any related meetings or informational campaigns. The council’s decision limits any city employee from speaking in favor of the issue on behalf of the city. However, those employees do have the freedom to favor or help promote the issue as private individuals.
