One of Alicia Ybarra’s goals for her business in 2017 is to have more visibility in Wichita. Ybarra will more than likely achieve that goal after moving her business to downtown Wichita this summer.
Vanya Designs and Custom Sewing, 413 N. Osage Road in Derby, will move to 520 N. Commerce in Wichita close to Intrust Bank Arena.
A moving sale will be held July 5 and 6, and the store will reopen July 11 at the new location. A grand opening will be July 28 and 29 for Final Friday.
Ybarra said she has Derby to thank for her business’s success and expansion.
What started out as a one-woman show out of her basement six years ago has grown into a business with two other full-time employees, two part-time employees and a booked schedule.
Over the years, more clients started to come from outside Derby. The new location is close to shops where potential clients would go looking for dresses.
“Being in a central location is important,” Ybarra said.
The new space also has more space and character.
“The experience is going to be so much better,” she said. “Once [clients] come and see my new spot, they will get why I moved.”
Her new space on Commerce is an old renovated factory building with hardwood floors and brick walls.
It will have a high-end New York City feel with chandeliers hanging from its high ceilings.
The bigger space will allow Ybarra to serve more customers at one time.
Ybarra will still live in Derby, and her business will stay involved with the Derby community.
She hopes that Derby clients will follow her and sacrifice a little longer drive for the quality of her work.
