Lang named Pitetti award recipient

Derby High School Senior Bryce Lang was named the
recipient of the James K. Pitetti award during the annual football
banquet held on December 16. The James K. Pitetti award reflects
the tradition of athletes who are willing to make a commitment
to work harder than the opponents and become the best they can
be.
Pitetti, who was not a naturally gifted athlete, but had an outstanding
work ethic, graduated from Derby in 1994. He was killed in a car
accident in the summer of 1996 after completing his sophomore
year at the Air Force Academy. His parents established the scholarship
in their son’s name. The recipient of the scholarship is
chosen by the football coaches based on the criteria set by the
Pitettis.
Lang is a senior and played wide receiver and defensive guard
and has lettered his junior and senior years. He is also a two-year
letterman in baseball and plans to play in the spring. He also
holds a 3.75 GPA. Pictured are head football coach Tom Young (left),
