County offering residents
free housing rehabilitation
By Lisa Casterline
Sedgwick County has recently received two sizeable grants from
the State of Kansas to be used for housing rehabilitation for
residents within the County.
Sedgwick County originally received a $210,000 grant, with an
additional $50,000 of local taxpayer money added to it, to be
used on housing rehabilitation. They then received another grant
award for $400,000 for the same program.
The South Central Kansas Economic Development District (SCKEDD)
is a non-profit organization that is handling the project, known
as the Home Program. It has received complete applications for
six households so far. In order to spend all of the funds, 21
more households need to apply, said Nathan Low, project administrator
for SCKEDD.
Households are encouraged to apply for the project and applicants
are particularly needed from the following cities: Andale, Cheney,
Clearwater, Colwich, Goddard, Valley Center and Derby.
For more information on the Home Project, call Low at 262-7035
or 1-800-685-1742.
