Time is approaching for Annual Derby Christmas Parade

The Annual Derby Christmas Parade will be on December 7 at 5:30 p.m. This year’s theme is “Christmas Around the World”.

“If you can walk, push, pull, ride or drive an entry we’d like you to participate in the Christmas Parade,” said Parade chairman Dr. Kevin Darden. “We would especially like to encourage businesses to join in the parade.”

Last year there were approximately 38 entrants in the Christmas Parade. Darden explained that participants are advised to use lights on their floats because it is a nighttime event. The Chamber is also encouraging the use of musical entrants this year.

Float entries are to use the entrance on Market Street to line up. There will be no space for parking in this area, but drop-off and pick-up points will be located on Woodlawn. Line-up time should be between 4 and 4:45 p.m.

The parade route will be approximately one and a half miles, starting at the Derby Middle School and traveling west on Madison. It will then proceed south on Georgie and west on Market, before returning to the school.

Those watching the parade and those participating in it are reminded of the following rules: candy can be distributed by hand to individuals, but not thrown; no jumping on or off of moving vehicles; there will be only one Santa, a guest of the Parade committee, as not to confuse little ones; there will be no stopping along the Parade route.

Those wishing to participate can call the Derby Chamber of Commerce at 788-3421 or stop by the office, located at 222 S. Baltimore, for entry forms.

“It is a wonderful time for the whole family,” said Darden. “You can gather with family and friends and relax and enjoy the parade.”
