Myers
announces resignation
from City Council

By Lisa Casterline
City Councilman Larry Myers officially announced
his resignation at last night’s city council meeting. Myers’
resignation will be effective January 1, 2003.
“I anticipate moving out of Ward 3 and will not be able
to represent the people if I am not living in Ward 3,” said
Myers. “I just wanted to give everyone time to prepare.”
Myers said he could possibly be moving to Arizona sometime in
the future. His wife Norma recently accepted a position with Bank
of America and is commuting back and forth between Derby and Phoenix.
Myers has not ruled out also traveling back and forth.
“I have been really honored to have had the opportunity
to serve on the Council,” said Myers. “Derby is still
home no matter where I may live or where I may go.”
Myers said that he has seen the Council accomplish many things
in the four years he has held the position. He said he believes
that the Council’s ability to work with businesses interested
in starting up in Derby is a great attribute for the City. The
construction of the Police and Court building was one of the highlights
of his time on the Council. Myers also gave a lot of credit to
Derby Mayor Richard Standrich for the improvements made in Derby.
