Boy Scout Christmas tree
lot opens Friday

By Monica Woolard

Boy Scout Troop 692 will have their Christmas tree lot up and running at noon on Friday, November 29, the day after Thanksgiving.

Located on the grassy area just east of and adjacent to the parking lot of St. Mary’s Catholic Church on the corner of Madison and Derby, the tree lot will be offering Fraser Firs, Balsam Firs, Plantation Douglas Firs, Douglas Firs, Scotch Pine and White Pine trees. The trees will range in size from 5-9 feet, with prices ranging from $20-$65.

Boy Scout Troop 692 has been operating the tree lot for over ten years. The tree lot was originally located in the ESC parking lot and operated by the Lions Club. The Lions Club then gifted the lot, trailer, supplies, and Christmas tree account to the Boy Scout troop. About 32 boys will participate in the operation of the tree lot, earning money for summer Boy Scout activities. Some of the boys will use their money to attend Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that is planned for this summer. In appreciation for the use of the space, the Boy Scouts always welcome St. Mary’s Catholic Church to choose several trees to decorate their sanctuary, and in the past, they have also donated trees to Operation Holiday and the Midway Baptist Church Good Neighbor Center.

The Boy Scout tree lot will be open beginning on Friday, November 29. Friday the lot will be open from noon - 6 p.m. After that, hours of operation will be Monday-Friday, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., and Sunday, noon - 6 p.m.
