The Okee Dokee Brothers, childhood friends Joe Mailander (at left) and Justin Lansing, will perform at the Derby Public Library on July 19.
Anyone who likes kids’ toe-tapping music or wants to learn to be a better photographer will find the Derby Public Library has an event for them on Thursday, July 19.
Okee Dokee Brothers
The Okee Dokee Brothers, Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing, 2012 Parents’ Choice Award winners, are coming as part of the library’s summer performance series, Seeing Stars.
The “Kindie” band will perform an energetic, interactive and fun concert where kids can enjoy dancing and singing with their families.
Mailander and Lansing have a passion for the outdoors that is the heart of their music. Their goal is to get children and their parents to get outside and experience nature.
The band will have two performances, one at 10 a.m. and one at 2 p.m., in the library’s community room.
Learn to take night photos
Also scheduled for that evening is a great opportunity to improve night-photo skills.
Even if those night photos look like dark blobs or brightly lit outlines, learn how to take great pictures, whether the subject is parties, fireworks or landscapes.
Local photographer Barney Tull will show some of his photographs and explain how he achieved his results.
Tull was trained as an Army imagery analyst during the Vietnam War, but has been interested in photography for as long as he can remember. His work has been shown in several area galleries, including Botanica Wichita.
He teaches photography classes and is involved with several local camera clubs and photography groups.
Tull will share his tips for taking better nighttime photos at 7 p.m. in the community room at the library.
No registration is necessary for either event.
